Dermatologist MBChB FRACP ICDP-UEMS

Dr Ben Tallon is a highly respected specialist Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist. He is the only practicing Dermatopathologist in New Zealand with International Board qualifications.

Ben is a Tauranga lad who chose to follow in the footsteps of his father, Dr Roy Tallon, a GP who practised in the bay for 35 years. He graduated from the Auckland University School of Medicine in 1999 and completed training in internal medicine in Auckland and London before beginning subspecialty training in Dermatology in Hamilton and Auckland. Following this, he completed a one-year fellowship in Dermatopathology in Boston, USA. He then further intensified his study with a six month fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Graz, Austria.

Ben is a Fellow of the NZ Dermatological Society and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society, executive member of the International Society of Dermatopathology and an international fellow of the American Society of Mohs Surgery.  

Ben is the appointed Dermatopathologist for Pathlab and consults for Tauranga and Waikato as well as Medlab and LabPlus in Auckland. In Tauranga, he also supports the local GPs and hospital with advice and education. 

He is a sought after speaker at International Dermatology Forums and has published numerous professional articles. 

Ben is an advisor for the Melanoma NZ and is leading the initiative to provide legislation against the use of sunbeds. He is a member of the Working Group for Sunbed Legislation in New Zealand and has been appointed to the Australasian Standards Committee for solarium use.

After 16 years of training Ben has returned to his roots, settling with his wife and three children in Tauranga, where they enjoy an active life making the most of the outdoor options available in the Bay of Plenty. He has a strong sense of identity with the region and is committed to providing the highest levels of care as a Dermatologist in the Bay of Plenty.
