MEET THE TEAM
Dr Ben Tallon is a highly respected specialist Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist. The only practising Dermatopathologist in New Zealand with International Board qualifications, Ben is a Fellow of the NZ Dermatological Society, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and an executive member of the Australasian Society of Dermatopathology. He is an executive member of the International society of Dermatopathology and a fellow of the American Society of Mohs Surgery. Ben is the appointed dermatopathologist for Pathlab and consults for Tauranga and Waikato as well as Medlab Auckland. He is a sought after speaker at International Dermatology Forums and has published numerous professional articles. He enjoys an active life with his wife and young family, making the most of the outdoor options available in the Bay of Plenty.
Dr Deshpande studied medicine at Manchester University and did her undergraduate electives at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She returned to the UK and worked as a GP in Blackpool, Manchester and London. Her passion was always to combine art and medicine and so she embarked on cosmetic medicine training in the UK.
As an experienced nurse in dermatology, Trish brings enthusiasm and new skills to our team. She assists Dr Tallon in his consultations, minor surgeries and Mohs surgery. Trish performs a number of appearance medicine procedures including Botox and filler injecting. With prior experience also as a healthcare assistant in the dermatology field, Trish has excellent hands on experience in this area making her another invaluable member of this specialist field of health care. She loves to wakeboard in summer and snowboard in winter with her sons and is very excited to be a part of our team.
Katie trained as a Registered Nurse in Auckland and worked for five years at Auckland Hospital, specialising in Neurosurgery. This demanding role required tenacity, empathy and the unique ability of any nurse to juggle the professional demands of the unit with skill, patience and the drive to provide the best possible care. After five years in Auckland, Katie travelled around Europe where she experienced the diversity and excitement of new countries and cultures. Since moving to Tauranga, Katie is enjoying being close to her family who have been longstanding residents of the city for more than 70 years. Katie is excited at the prospect of working with the team at Skin Dermatology and is thrilled to have been chosen for this position.
Robyn enjoys a busy and diverse role with us here at SKIN. She specifically assists with the pathology involved during the process of Mohs Surgery, a position that requires a precision laboratory technique to obtain the most accurate results for our patients. She has over 20 years experience as a histology lab technician and working for the Tauranga Public Hospital and Pathlab doing routine histology and cytology preparation. Robyn’s experience in these fields is the perfect fit for her work here. She is also enjoying the diversity of her blended administration role, dealing with people and furthering her skills in a new field. Living with the beach almost at her back door, is ideal for Robyn and her children as they all enjoy swimming and fishing.
Andrea is a integral part of the Skin Team covering multiple roles in reception, administration and as a MOHS Technician. A varied range of work experience has given Andrea a complement of skills that are perfect for these roles. A wealth of transferable skills have meant she has easily embraced her new role. In informative years, Andrea was a graduate of Massey University and a scholarship recipient which took her on highly sought after and fully funded opportunity in the UK. Andrea has experience in everything from horticulture to administration and accounts. The mum of two school aged boys Andrea has lived in Tauranga for many years.
As Administration Manager for the SKIN Andrea is kept busy with the financial accounts and the organisational aspects of the practice. She enjoys working behind the scenes helping with the day to day running of a busy specialised clinic. With a background in administration at the Da Vinci Clinic, teaching and accounting Andrea brings a varied background to her role. Andrea is a part time member of the SKIN Team who works both on-site and at home. When not at SKIN she is busy with her three small children and enjoys running, taking part in off-road events and wake boarding and skiing.
