Mark Omundsen is an expert in areas where many may fear to tread. The surgical management of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal prolapse and defaecatory disorders such as incontinence and obstructive defaecation are all within his brief. These are sub-specialty areas for this Colorectal, Laparoscopic and General Surgeon.
Mark attained his Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship in 2009 and successfully applied to the Colorectal Society of Australia and New Zealand’s subspecialty Colorectal Fellowship program the same year. He has been accredited with the New Zealand Conjoint Committee for the performance of both upper (gastroscopy) and lower (colonoscopy) gastrointestinal endoscopy.
He is especially interested in minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopic and single incision laparoscopic surgical techniques in the management of colorectal diseases, abdominal wall hernia and gallbladder pathology. Mark finds the multidisciplinary nature of the Virtuoso team has real advantages for both patients and referring practitioners.
